Government has urged more and more people to engage in mobile phone recycling.
The people in the UK are being told to not only recycle their mobile phones, but even the other electronics that they may have. A new campaign has been initiated by The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills in order to encourage as many UK residents towards recycling their products now that holiday season is over. Every year usually, millions of new electronics such as cell phones, are received by the Britons for Christmas. However, merely 30 per cent and sometimes even lesser, are sent for recycling. People generally have the old products either incorrectly disposed off or even unused posing great threat to the environment. Even though a large number of electronics and cell phones get passed down to younger folks at home, but still a majority potential lies out there for cell phone recycling.
Mark Prisk is known to be a part of this campaign. A statement from him says that people must be reminded to recycle their unused and old products like mobile phones in order to avoid them ending up in landfills.
This green option poses two major advantages. Not only is the environment freed from throwing old electronics in landfills and prevent damage to the earth, but there is also a monetary benefit since recycling programmes offer to cash to consumers for turning in their old electronics and mobile phones. What reason do you have for not opting for mobile phone recycling?

Over the years the price comparison model has slowly made its way into many industries and when you see the advantages that it gives you can see why it has become very popular. Whether you are looking to save more money or make more money using a price comparison is here to help you do just that.
So, if you wanted to save money on your car insurance, instead of going direct to Company A you are best comparing the prices offered from Company A through to Company Z to see which offers you the best price, value for money and of course saving.
The same principle works if you are looking for the answer to “Does this principle still work if I want to sell my phone” and the answer is yes it does. This time instead of selling your mobile phone to Company A, you will get to compare a range of recyclers to see which one if offering you the best possible price. This means you get to sell your phone for more cash that you thought, clear your house from clutter and do your bit for the environment.
So, if you have one or even a number of phones that are lying around unused in your house or apartment then why not start 2012 off by making yourself some cash back on these old phones to help you through the depressing month of January. Do your bit for the environment and treat yourself with the money you make by comparing prices today.

Undoubtedly mobile phones are becoming essential for most of us. Before the festive celebrations for this year started, a survey was conducted to determine how many people were planning on making phone calls and sending text messages using their mobile phone. The results showed that 62 per cent will make phone calls and about 55 per cent will send text messages to wish their families and friends. Though the survey did not show any such results, but many intended to use their brand new Christmas gift iPhone or a smart phone to do so, since a good deal of cell phone recycling was undertaken during the weeks before Christmas.
With the increase in usage of social media platforms, the communication through mobile phone has also surged. Many people posted messages and Christmas wishes on Facebook and Twitter but even made phone calls and sent text messages. T-Mobile also stated that it takes keen interest in knowing how families each year spread festive messages – do they use technology and gadgets or do they use a more personalized way?
Another survey revealed that around £186 million was spent by UK citizens online for Christmas day and most of these purchases were of cell phones. It is absolutely clear that cell phones are indeed a part of Christmas holidays, whether it means using it to find movie show times or to make phone calls to family or simply sending well wishes through text messages.

The statistics revealed lately show that the year 2009 saw the highest number of mobile phones purchased in UK.
Although the exact figures for 2010 and 2011 are not available as yet, the 2009 numbers well indicate that the graph is only heading upwards. As on record, a total of around 30 million mobile phone units were bought in year 2009 and only 30% of them have been put through recycling process so far.
It has also come to light that 18 months is the average duration for which mobile phone contracts are made in UK. After every 18 months, the subscriber either remains loyal to the old provider or switches to a new one. Knowing that new contracts come with new mobile phone instruments, there are millions of handsets that never go through recycling process.
Ever since mobile phone recycling became mainstream in year 2005 when it was first introduced to the general populace via National Autistic Society charity, more and more people are becoming aware and sensitive to the process. Now you can turn in your old mobile phone for recycling just by the click of a mouse button. Moreover, mobile phone companies are nowadays offering attractive monetary incentives for turning in old mobile phones for recycling. Any mobile phone that is in working condition or can be refurbished, stands to make a handy cash incentive for the owner. There are other mobile phone recycling plans too wherein the proceeds from the old phone can be donated to a charity.

Old mobile phones are required at the Starship Children’s Hospital in New Zealand.
While this programme is in New Zealand, we here in the UK, can learn a lesson from the request sent by Starship Children’s Hospital. What an incredible thing that kids are getting old phones to be donated. The Children’s hospital is seeking donations as charity so that the phones can be handed out for Christmas.
Such old mobile phones are then sold to many developing countries across the world after their refurbishment is completed. Out of these, some phones are gifted as Christmas presents, while some are sold off in the market to assist in raising money for the hospital. Around 1 million USD has been raised for this hospital so far in this programme using 400,000 donated mobile phones.
One thing is certain – mobile phone recycling has tremendous potential to be used for good. The programme raised enough money to even allow the National Air Ambulance Service at Starship to begin. Many injured and critically ill children have been assisted and medical care offered across New Zealand, using this service.
Instead of donating to a cause in New Zealand, you could donate to some local cause here in the UK by simply using the cash received from cell phone recycling and donating to your chosen charity. You can even buy some toys for Christmas and donate to any local charity. Undoubtedly there are numerous ways you could use cell phone recycling and help people around you.

One can see an increased number of Apple iPhones and BlackBerrys being turned in these days for Christmas money.
A new survey was conducted recently which states that cell phone recycling has been very popular this season. One is not sure if this development has anything to do with the new iPhone 4S being available in stores now. However, it certainly has something to do with the launch of new iPad 2 since many older generation iPads and old mobile phones have been turned in for recycling. It is believed that many Britons have purchased two new devices this season.
Another reason why cell phone recycling is seen as a great success in recent times is due to the fact that the old recycled phone can fetch little money. One could use this cash to either fund holiday gifts or replace any old devices. In the hope of receiving a new device this Christmas under the tree, many are still holding on to their old cell phones. If the new device does turn out for them, chances are high that they will recycle their old phones after the holiday gets over.
A warning has been issued to those who have purchased expensive gifts to be cautious against burglaries. Thefts at home increase during this season as thieves very well know that expensive gifts will be lying around. Use mobile phone recycling and you could also be giving a gift to some under-privileged this season through various charities.

Claiming back your lost mobile phone to get it recycled.
A large number of people lose their expensive electronic gadgets every year. They either forget their laptop or mobile phone in the taxi or at the bar. A recent study has discovered that Northeners, specifically the Northeners in Scotland have a tendency to lose their phone after a night out. The study was carried out by the O2. The study also revealed that nearly half of the surveyed 2000 people, never found their lost items. Rather than looking for the lost goods, these people chose to claim insurance instead.
Many lost items are forgotten in places such as shops, trains, taxis, bars and even in parks. Mobile phones constitute the most number of such lost items. Having lost an electronic gadget or a mobile phone can be considered equivalent to losing money, as these phones can be easily reclaimed and recycled for cash. If such electronic items remain unclaimed for a period of at least one year, the companies are entitled to submit them to recycling centres. Many companies do so and donate the proceeds to help young people.
If you are one of the people who have lost their mobile phone recently, it may be a good idea to search it, so that you can at least obtain its recycle value. After all you have spent hard earned cash on that phone, so you must benefit from the option of mobile phone recycling. Else, you can remain contended about the recycling money donated for the benefit of UK’s youth.

Before you send your mobile phone for recycling, you must remember to wipe off all the personal data from it.
Since mobile phones carry enough data, right from addresses and mobile phone numbers for family and friends, along with leaving notes in the phone, text messages and email records, it is only prudent to understand its implications before recycling the phone. The sad truth is that many UK citizens leave out removing personal data from their cell phones before recycling them through online companies. These phones could be used as means for scams, if they end up in wrong hands. Your family and friends from the contact list could get calls from strangers, pretending to be you, and gathering critical information. Confidential details related to your bank account and credit card could also be compromised with, depending on what all information is stored in your phone.
Currently, a warning related to mobile phone recycling is out for all individuals. All UK citizens have been told to remove their data from cell phones before turning them over. If people are not aware of how to get it done, then the mobile phone provider could help them with it, while they keep a watch on their phone and data. One must go further than only deleting the data, though it is a very simple process. Not only must the data be removed from the SIM card, but the removable SIM cards must be taken out before the cell phones are sent for recycling. Such removable SIM cards must be destroyed before the data is stolen and misused.

Too many companies are using cell phone recycling as their green message.
As Tom Dowdall, an international campaigner from Greenpeace, puts it, there are various benefits associated with mobile phone recycling. Companies have adopted cell phone recycling as the primary reason for advertising. They are even trying to generate more interest from people towards electronic equipment recycling, which has seen huge economical and commercial benefit as far as these companies are concerned.
It undoubtedly is an excellent way to build corporate brand the moment companies make statements about accepting cell phones for recycling. Well, they could also be doing the recycling of phones through other companies like the cell phone provider, but what matters at the end is the message being sent out. Consumers are being shown easier ways of recycling so they can choose and opt. Eventually, the individual will gain by getting some extra money and the business gains by earning more brand recognition.
Mobile phone recycling must be used by engaging a company that one can trust. The consumer not only benefits by earning a sizeable amount of money for the recyclable phones which can be reused, but also feels secure that it is a company which will definitely pay out.
Online scams are scary since they accept mobile phones for recycling, but do so only to gain one’s personal information from the phone. So it is very essential for one to understand how the process of cell phone recycling works apart from the companies which truly reward for recycling.
