From LGD to Samsung: Apple iPad 2

Not that it is going to affect you in a big way; DigiTimes reported that after LGD (LG Display) dropped the ball, Apple had to change its display panel providers. LGD had been the biggest supplier of iPad 2 displays until now.

For LG this indeed is bad news but for Chimei Innolux and Samsung, the two companies which have been selected for replacing LGD, are excited. Not only has Samsung benefitted as it has doubled its production in the month of July from the regular one million displays every month, but it has greatly helped Chimei Innolux too, which can now leverage its relationship with Foxconn (the manufacturers of iPad) to further increase its share in production of iPad display.

Initially, at the time of iPad 2’s first release, the high demand really had Apple struggling even to meet its production rates. As a result, after the launch, the anticipated sales for the first quarter were much lower. However Apple was quick enough to gets its act together and shipped in excess of 9 million iPad 2s in the previous quarter. And as recent as last week, Apple dropped its shipping estimates to a minimum of “within 24 hours”.

This is the perfect time to buy Apple iPad 2 if you have an interest in the product. You will get the product much faster and quicker since the shortage problem is resolved and shipping duration too is much shorter than before.

There is no iPad killer as yet, though Sony and others are at it!
