Are Mobiles Playing With Our Health?

The National Sleep Foundation in the United States has reported that as many as 95% of the US citizens make use of some technology while trying to sleep at night. Majority of these are mobile phones, televisions and computers. In addition to that I have come across some statistics which reveal that more than more than half of the teenagers in US not only play games or send messages on their mobiles just before falling asleep, but a large number of them actually go to sleep with their mobiles.

I remember how my mobile used to be the first thing I’d switch on and the last thing I’d switch off every day, for the first few years after having bought my first one. It is only since past few years that I have got into the habit of keeping it on round the clock. However, neither do I sleep with it, nor do I keep it with me in my bedroom at night. It is kept at a safe distance in the hall during the night time. However, it succeeds in waking me up sometimes as early as 3am with the disturbing tone of an incoming email.

Always being so close to our mobiles is certainly not good for health. Not only does it disturbs our sleep, but also diverts our attention from the current state of affairs of the world. Further, we can be often caught not paying much attention to people around us.

I wonder if we will ever be able to distance ourselves from our mobiles! No doubt, they are of great utility, but sleeping with them? Perhaps that is when it gets too much.
